“…irregularity – that is to say, the unexpected, surprise and astonishment, are a essential part and characteristic of beauty.” Charles Baudelaire
These are photos of the summer house built by my great-grandparents and their children in Ipswich, Massachusetts. My great-grandfather was a Landscape Architect in Boston and my great-grandmother was a furniture maker. The many summers I spent in this house taught me to seek out beauty that is timeless. I have been thinking about the work they did and reading some of Baudelaire lately. I will share more as my thoughts develop.
In the meantime, go see “Impression, Fashion and Modernity” at the Metropolitan, have a coffee at Cafe Sabarsky at the Neue Galerie and take a walk in Central Park and inhale the fruit tree blossoms. Our modern world is crazy but full of beauty. I believe this and try to express this in my work everyday.
